Alex Castro is an international fine artist who paints in a unique, fresh and masterful style. His most recent paintings are a reflection of spiritual and esoteric themes using a combination of realism and new age symbolism that harmonize the body, mind and spirit. In a time where technology has taken over, Castro’s masterful oil paintings connects the beholder to a powerful, yet subtle beauty.
With over 40 years experience, Alex Castro has mastered various art mediums. He has dedicated many years studying the old masters’ techniques. Alex Castro has studied at the Brooklyn Museum’s Art School and also studied under the famous artist Sidney Dickerson at the Arts Students League in New York.
Alex has exhibited in numerous one-man shows as well as group shows at the Black History Museum, Bank Street College, Studio Museum of Harlem, the Salmagundi Club and the New York Illustrator’s Club. He has received numerous awards including the Bronze Medal from the Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters in Paris, France in 1984. Alex Castro has illustrated a children’s book entitled, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., A Story for Children. His famous black and white portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has been published nationally.
In addition, Alex has been painting miniatures for collectors, internationally. He has developed his own style of painting miniatures and has introduced a new system of concepts and techniques that incorporate the use of an airbrush, among various tools. He is well known for the soft buttery skin effects that give his figures a realistic appearance and museum-like quality.
Alex Castro is the author of book titled,The Art of Painting Miniatures: Faces & Figures, published by Compendium. He was on the cover of Modeler’s Resource Magazine, summer issue #61, which showcased a how-to article on a 3-D plaque entitled, “Tattoo“. This magazine is now a collector’s item. Castro wrote an article for Figure International Magazine, Andrea Press, Madrid, Spain. Castro has written several how-to articles for ARTTALK, Newsletter for IWATA. Castro was also featured in the Pocono Record “Master in Miniature/Artist Alex Castro Finds Expression in Small Packages.” In addition, Alex Castro was asked to be on the cover of the first edition of Fantasy Dimensions, an international magazine from Spain, which showcased a how-to article on “Conan the Barbarian“. Alex also wrote another article for the fourth edition for Fantasy Dimensions magazine that featured “Kull of Atlantis” on the cover. Alex’s work has now been showcased on the covers of four major miniature magazines around the world!
